The Posture of Labor vs. Service

Yesterday was Labor day and when you're from Brookyn and Black Labor day is huge Caribbean party down the parkway!

For those not familiar, the Parkway is Eastern Parkway, a major throughway that runs from mid downtown Brooklyn to Ocean Hill. No Labor nah go wan on those streets during Labor Day but as Black Woman Healer and Guide I of course was moved to reflect on how the world has conditioned us to be laborers, to carry, to endure, to produce, to perform. We are taught that our worth is measured in how hard we work, how much we suffer, and how well we mask the pain. Oh the guilt we feel if we relax just a little too long and God forbid if someone sees us lounging. Yes we truly are breaking the cycles of work hustle grind culture with invitations to softness and rest but still, we do too damn much. Could it be that we need to reframe service and labor?

Labor vs. Service

  • Labor is heavy, extractive, and rooted in survival. It drains the spirit and often leaves us resentful or depleted.

  • Service is sacred, chosen, and aligned with our soul’s calling. It pours from coherence from Head, Heart, and Womb working together in harmony.

When I am laboring, I am in my wound. When I am serving, I am in my healing. I am Unwounded.

Service is not slavery, nor martyrdom, nor performance. Service is sacred offering.  It is alignment with God, Spirit, Source whatever name you call the Divine. It is the overflow of a healed and coherent soul.

I had two experiences this month. The first someone wanted a customized service, however it felt more like picking my offering apart and leaving all the yummy transformation on the floor. Which for me felt like more work, labor, resistance. The other was when I jumped back on a film set to dayplay in costumes. It wasn't the first time I had returned to the set after leaving 5 years ago but this time I understood the overwhelming urge I feel to want to jump in to my healing work with anyone who'd look at me too long. It's Service. I am here to offer deep transformation. As a Hypno Healer and Spiritual Guide, I work in the past, present and future, I recently decided to name this process.

The Triadic Soul Grid

When we move from labor to service, we embody the Triadic Soul Grid™:

  • Womb (Past): We have released the ancestral wounds and imprints that told us we were only laborers, mules, or workers.

  • Heart (Present): We soften into love, creating from compassion instead of defense.

  • Head (Future): We open to vision, serving from a future aligned with Spirit instead of fear.

Service flows when the Triadic Soul is in coherence.

Could it be possible to receive more, become more open if we showed up ready to serve and not work?

A Reflection for You

Dearest One, ask yourself:

  • Where in my life am I still laboring instead of serving? Even if its a job, are you toiling?

  • Which mask is tied to my labor? (Perfection, Control, Only I can do it)

  • What would it feel like to shift from toiling to offering of talent and gifts?

  • Have I brought my wound to my work or am I bringing my wonder?

How are you showing up in relationships, your job, with yourself?

You are not here to labor. You are here to serve with your gifts, your talents, your compliments, your smile. Ok don't smile! But your Presence even in the most mundane circumstance can uplift the atmosphere when you show up as your best you...in service.

We will take a deep dive into the identities we hold that are inauthentic to the You and it keeps us devaluing ourselves. We will be exploring in this months In Person Offering called UnMask. Get the Details HERE and take advantage of our Bestie opportunity to Bring a Friend.
